BACKGROUND
Tenom District Council was established on 1st January 1962 as a local government under the Local Government
Ordinance, 1961 Establishment of Tenom District Council was inaugurated by the Honor able Mr. GL Gray, Local
Government and the Secretary were present at that time was the Resident of the interior of Mr. W. S. Holley.
Chairman of the District Council is the first Tenom District Officer Mr. William Lim and Deputy Chairman is Mr.
Chiew Vui Kiet.
Tenom District Council is a Local Authority in the state of Sabah. It is located in the interior of Sabah,
Tenom district bordering with Papar district in the north, in the western Beaufort, Sipitang district in the
south-west, South Kalimantan of Indonesia in the south, southeast and Pensiangan in Keningau district in the east.
Initially, the District Council office building at the District Office for the then District Council has yet to
have its own building.
But in 1980 the office of the District Council has moved to the House Datuk Seri Panglima Antenom and in 1984
the District Council finally has its own office building of Wisma Tenom District Council.
OBJECTIVES
Tenom District Council has set several objectives in accordance with the function and its role as the Local
Authority to provide the best public service and effective. Among the objectives outlined are as follows:
- Creating a Local Authority with efficient administration, capable and efficient.
- Creating a Local Authority financially sound by using existing resources optimally and diversify new resources.
- Establish an efficient, fair, equitable and quality.
- Create a developing town with planning an orderly, clean, beautiful, comfortable and modern.
- Improve hygiene, public health and beauty weekend.
- Increase local socio-economic plan, build and provide facilities for business

FUNCTION
- Formulate / implement / enforce policies for the interests and general welfare of the local population.
- Provide collection and disposal of garbage in the rating area.
- Build and maintain ditches and drains in the rating area.
- Build and maintain public facilities such as public toilets, water treatment plants and sewerage, street lighting, infrastructure facilities such as roads, bridges, public bridge, bus shelter / taxi, a community hall and a multipurpose hall.
- Build and maintain a place of business facilities such as market stalls, living and night markets.
- Control and issue licenses under the jurisdiction of Tenom District Council.
- Control all aspects of the planning and development of commercial, industrial and residential development and to ensure the orderly and systematically implemented according to plan schemes.
- Process / approve the development plan / building and issue a Certificate of Fitness for Occupation (OC).
- Develop / maintain recreational parks, children's playgrounds, recreation facilities and open spaces.
